Channel Coast

Along the southeast coast of England, near the gleaming White Cliffs of Dover, lies a few of its storied links courses. The offering includes a 15-time host of The Open, plus two former venues for golf’s oldest professional championship. The relative proximity to London makes this an ideal choice for England golf trips logistically speaking, and the area easily pairs with the great heathland courses near the capital.

Less than two hour’s drive from London, the links along the Channel Coast are often overshadowed by their famous counterparts near Liverpool. Yet it’s here that we find Royal St. George’s Golf Club, which has welcomed The Open fifteen times, most recently in 2021.

Immediately next door, Prince’s boasts both comfortable lodging and 27-holes of links golf. It also hosted an Open of its own in 1932, won by Gene Sarazen and a trusty new club he called the “sand wedge.”

Finally, Royal Cinque Ports – better known as Deal – welcomed The Open on two occasions and would have hosted more were it not for multiple bouts of poorly timed flooding.

The Channel Coast also features a variety of sightseeing opportunities off the course. The famous White Cliffs, Dover and Hever Castles, as well as nearby Canterbury and its historic cathedral are a few highlights in the area. If your group includes tourists traveling without the clubs, consider combining the Channel Coast and the London Heathland into a single itinerary to enjoy an even greater abundance of the Good Life.
